Messages of Adults Saving Kids

  1. Everyone is someone's child.
  2. Children are to be respected, protected, and empowered.
  3. Everyone involved is getting hurt somehow. People will give you as much nonsense as you have room for.
  4. The numbers are what we are causing. This is not about blaming, it is about taking responsibility for our resignation, our silence, our complacency, our cynicism. It is about not taking Jesus seriously when we are members of the body of Christ as in Luke 4:18-19 and not taking God at his promises as in Isaiah 58:6-12.
  5. The consequences are staggering, the cost tremendous. Are we noticing either?
  6. It doesn't have to be this way. This is unnecessary devastation.
  7. Oppression occurs when some people decide to take advantage of other people's weakness and then profit from that.
  8. Prostitution is a matter of violence against other human beings.
  9. Jesus came to liberate the captives and set free the oppressed. Can we, the body of Christ decide to do any less? See #4.
  10. The time has come for us to see how this happens for it has been disclosed to us.
  11. The time has come for us to look at the cost of something which appears invisible to us but we know is there.
  12. Men who actively support the sex industry or who express no opinion about it can also realize they have been co-conspirators in trapping members of their own family and will get little help from the system if a family member becomes involved.
  13. Youth are naturally vulnerable. They are trying to become independent of family, are ready to take risks, want to test their skills with others outside the family, are inexperienced with life, have sexual and romantic interests. If a person who is treacherous and clever enters their lives, they can be easy pickings--easily deceived, and of course that includes church youth, maybe especially church youth.
  14. Clever adults and vulnerable youth are a devastating mix for the youth.
  15. People are getting hurt out there.
  16. If a man uses the services of the sex industry, we ask him to consider if he is using someone who has been abused, manipulated, or coerced and if this is so, does he want to take advantage of such a person?
  17. Reverence and honor and accountability in all relationships thereby preventing commercial sexual exploitation.
  18. It is time for us Christians to quit playing the inept, glory seeking, ineffective Lone Ranger game and begin to see what we as communities of faith can provide for the world in terms of giving leadership and transforming people's thinking.
  19. Christian Churches are teams--salt and light which can decide to make a major contribution and then proceed to pray and do it. Like having each one of their youth be equipped so they will not be exploited.
