Brochure published by MN Department of Corrections, Victim Service Unit, 1990
reviewed by Dave Lemen
That’s the title of a small brochure published by the Minnesota Program for Victims of Sexual Assault. The brochure is a compact, comprehensive information source on child sexual abuse, it’s symptoms, it’s effects, the steps that should be taken to prevent it and the steps that should be taken when it’s discovered. The brochure also addresses common misconceptions about child sexual abuse and breaks down the pertinent legislation into short and easily understood explanations. The brochure states that "from 10-20 percent of children have sexual contact with an adult - usually not a stranger - before they are 18. And most of them will never tell anyone." Recognition of child sexual abuse depends "upon our willingness to admit that it may exist."
These brochures are available in packages of 50 from Minnesota’s Bookstore, 117 University Ave., St. Paul, MN 55155, for $7 per package, plus $2 shipping. Brochures can be ordered by mail or by phone, (VISA or MasterCard) at (612) 297-3000, 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. If you would just like one or two copies of this brochure, contact a local counseling center, or write to S.T.O.P. at the address on the back of this newsletter.
In 2002 our organization changed its name to Adults Saving Kids. Prior to that we were called A-STOP (Alliance for Speaking Truths On Prostitution), STOP (Speaking Truths On Prostitution), or Grassroots Ministry Alliance.
