A message from the S.T.O.P. Committee

On page five of the April 1992 issue of STOP Light, it was mentioned that plans were under way for an October 1992 seminar on issues of prostitution. At the invitation of the S.T.O.P. Committee, Frank Barnaba and three members of the Paul & Lisa staff came to the Twin Cities to help us plan and to explore the possibility of implementing preventative education and rehabilitation programs in Minnesota similar to their program in Connecticut. It was decided that further discussion and research were needed, plus financial backing, before a major seminar could be presented.

As a result of the Paul & Lisa staff’s invaluable input, a group of representatives from agencies and organizations in the Twin Cities that offer services for people involved in prostitution now meets regularly. These include social service agencies, medical professionals, law enforcement representatives, school counselors, state government department people and concerned citizens. The S.T.O.P. Committee facilitates.

The group is exploring approaches that can be taken to make the most impact cooperatively. Their agenda focuses on the areas of public policy, direct service, and education.

We will let readers know in future issues of STOP Light of the outcome and progress of these meetings.

In 2002 our organization changed its name to Adults Saving Kids. Prior to that we were called A-STOP (Alliance for Speaking Truths On Prostitution), STOP (Speaking Truths On Prostitution), or Grassroots Ministry Alliance.
