From then to now&hellip
The STOP Light has its roots in the Twin Cities among a group of people concerned about youth -- about prostitution, exploitation, homelessness. In the late 80s, we met and talked and listened and learned. Sometimes there were twenty or thirty people around the table, more often a handful. Many willing hands and hearts -- through persistence, patience, and conviction -- made The STOP Light a reality in December 1989 and kept it going up to now, our tenth anniversary issue.
I've learned a lot since editing the first issue. About interviewing and writing, reading and reviewing, editing and revising. About committed people whose convictions compel them to take on the world -- one person at a time. About the power of prayer and of faith.
Thanks to you all for feedback and support. Thanks to those of you who opened up in interviews, wrote articles, stuck labels, sorted zip codes, made donations. Thank you, Al and Ina Erickson, for your understanding and encouragement. And thank you, Amy Hartman, for your dedication, humor, and optimism. Thanks be to God for all things.
Joan H. Nitz, volunteer editor (retired)
Thank you and farewell!
Twenty-two issues and 100,000 words after she began, we are saying farewell to Joan Nitz, our highly competent, volunteer graphic designer and editor of The Stoplight. Joan has been the spark that has kept this publication going for so long, the level-headed activist who knows how to be reasonable and challenging at the same time; the red-penciled editor with high standards; the insightful and respectful reporter committed to integrity; and most importantly, a good friend whose company we have enjoyed immensely. THANK YOU, Joan, for all you've given to A-STOP, the kids of this world, and the Lord you serve. We pray for God's blessings in your life.
Wise as Serpents update
As of November 17, over 230 copies of Wise as Serpents have been sold! People are seeing the need to educate young people about the lures, dangers, and ways to avoid being sexually exploited. Please keep all these churches, pastors, teachers, parents, and youth in your prayers, that God will work through them to make a positive difference in this world. In 2002 our organization changed its name to Adults Saving Kids. Prior to that we were called A-STOP (Alliance for Speaking Truths On Prostitution), STOP (Speaking Truths On Prostitution), or Grassroots Ministry Alliance.
