Study: Many U.S Children in Sex Market
Thousands of girls and boys, ages 9 to 17, trade their bodies so they can secure food, shelter, clothing and other basic needs to survive on America's streets. And a significant number of their customers are married men, many with children of their own, according to a University of Pennsylvania professor who co-authored a study on the subject to be released today.
Between 200,000 and 300,000 children in the United States are victims of prostitution, pornography, and other forms of commercial sex, professor Richard J. Estes said.
"The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico," was researched for three years and funded by the Department of Justice, the W.T. Grant Foundation, the Fund for Nonviolence, and Penn's Research Foundation.
