- Surveys of people in
prostitution show that over 75% were sexually abused before entering
prostitution. We have seen how many people running from sexual abuse
inadvertently end up in the arms of the sex industry.
- A person caught in
prostitution becomes entangled in a web of so-called love: abuse,
violence, and drugs. Attitudes which blame or expect that person to see
alternatives further entrap the victims.
- Runaway and throwaway
children are very vulnerable to clever adults who wish to profit from
the misfortune of others. The natural tendency to distance oneself from
high risk youngsters and the lack of caring services for them only
further endangers them. On its part, the sex industry has very
successful ways of recruiting, deceiving, and controlling people for
its own purposes.
- Customers perpetuate the
devastation of people in prostitution. We need to change their mindset
so they pursue a life style which does not destroy but generates
respect for others.
